As Emmie is approaching the big O N E we have been As Emmie is approaching the big O N E we have been finding the need to restructure her play spaces more and more. We spent this last weekend doing a complete overhaul on her toys and books and put in place a super easy to follow rotation.

I wanted a less is more approach to her playtime and it was important to us to keep things accessible to her. We needed to add in a few new pieces of shelving, so after a quick trip to ikea we we’re ready to go! Just kidding, when is a trip to ikea ever quick. 😅

We started by taking every toy and book we own and putting them into a giant pile in her nursery. 😳 I couldn’t believe all that we have accumulated in just one year. After sorting out things that she’s outgrown or have served their purpose, I then sorted the toys into categories like sensory, fine motor etc and put them into bins. We then stocked each of her two play spaces with a toy or two from each category and put the rest away to be swapped in/ out as needed. I’m figuring we will be on a weekly or biweekly swap schedule to keep things fresh. The books we split into seasonal, interactive, board etc. A good majority of the books will stay accessible since we read so much but others, especially the seasonal, will have the same system as her toy categories.

I can already tell that she’s more interested in the toys and activities that are available since there aren’t too many options to be overwhelmed by. I’m also feeling lighter and more focused in our home without all of the distractions and chaos! Which is important when you run multiple businesses out of your home. 🙃 Of course there’s always going to be some sort of chaos with kids but this has helped us a ton. Now onto all of the clothing she’s outgrown… 😵‍💫😅
